Brisbane is facing the potential for its hottest start to September this century, with temperatures expected to rise significantly above the seasonal average. Forecasts indicate that temperatures could reach 31 degrees Celsius on Thursday, with weekend highs potentially reaching 9 degrees above the average. Sunday is predicted to see a maximum of 35 degrees.

Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Felim Hanniffy noted that the city could experience four days of temperatures exceeding 30 degrees during the first week of September, a phenomenon not seen in at least 26 years. While the weather will be hot and dry across south-east Queensland, officials stated the period will not be classified as a heatwave because overnight temperatures are expected to remain relatively fresh.

Temperatures are anticipated to cool down early next week, though the broader outlook for the spring season suggests well-above-average temperatures and an increased potential for future heatwaves.
