Brisbane General Post Office leased for retail and office redevelopment

The heritage-listed General Post Office on Queen Street in Brisbane has been leased to the investment group Mackwell on a 99-year lease. The colonial-era building, originally constructed in 1872, is slated for transformation into a mixed-use precinct featuring retail and office spaces.

Australia Post, which sought to monetize the premium site to support its operational costs, confirmed that a post office will continue to operate from the location to maintain essential services for CBD workers and residents. The redevelopment is intended to revitalize the landmark ahead of the upcoming Olympics.

The building was designed by Francis Drummond Greville Stanley, an architect responsible for several other prominent Queensland structures.
