Brisbane Lions rally as Hugh McCluggage regains form and Kai Lohmann sparks scoring surge
Co‑captain Josh Dunkley said Brisbane midfielder Hugh McCluggage is close to returning to the dominant form that earned him an All‑Australian honour in 2025 after a season disrupted by recurring calf injuries. McCluggage missed five games early in the year but has recently contributed solid disposals in wins over Essendon and West Coast, helping the Lions climb into the top four and win six straight matches.
Forward Kai Lohmann credited a conversation with McCluggage for restoring his confidence. After a goal drought early in the season, Lohmann has kicked 12 goals in his last three games and totals 36 for the year, matching his 2024 output in far fewer matches. His resurgence bolsters Brisbane’s push for a third consecutive premiership as they prepare to host Port Adelaide at the Gabba.
