Brisbane Lions update coach search as Cameron Bruce emerges as favourite

The Brisbane Lions have updated their search for a new senior coach following the departure of Chris Fagan. Danny Daly, the club’s general manager of football, has decided not to pursue the coaching position. Instead, Daly has accepted an elevated role as general manager of football to lead the club’s football program and will serve on the selection panel to help choose the successor.

Assistant coach Cameron Bruce has emerged as the frontrunner for the role. Bruce, who has been with the Lions since 2021 and previously held coaching roles at Hawthorn and Carlton, is considered the early favourite.

The selection panel includes Chairman Andrew Wellington, CEO Sam Graham, and former coach Leigh Matthews. The club also noted that Simon Black and sports psychologist Matti Clements will support the panel during the process to ensure a thorough search for the next leader of the AFL team.
