Brisbane magistrate orders DNA collection in fatal carjacking case
A Brisbane magistrate has ordered a 16-year-old boy to provide a DNA sample in connection with the death of 27-year-old Oliver Conroy. Conroy died following an alleged assault and carjacking in the suburb of Kelvin Grove on July 24.
Prosecutors allege that the victim was lured to a location via social media before being attacked. The incident involved a motor vehicle being used to dislodge the victim from its roof and subsequently driving over him, causing what Magistrate Lewis Shillito described as ‘catastrophic injuries’.
Seven teenagers, including two girls aged 14 and 15, face charges that were upgraded following Conroy's death. While the magistrate approved DNA collection from the 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old female defendant, an application to collect DNA from a 14-year-old girl was denied as it was deemed unlikely to provide further evidence.
