Brisbane Markets mango auction raises $70,000 for charity
The symbolic first tray of the mango season sold at the Brisbane Markets for $70,000, marking the official start of the season. The auction, which featured 14 Kensington Pride mangoes sourced from NT Happy in Darwin, raised funds for two charities: Redkite, which supports families dealing with childhood cancer, and the Lady Musgrave Trust, which assists homeless women and children.
Elijah Etri, manager of Skippy’s Fresh Frootz, was crowned this year’s ‘mango monarch’ after securing the tray. The funds raised are expected to provide significant support, with Redkite noting the contribution could assist eight families for a year through counseling and financial aid. The Lady Musgrave Trust highlighted the importance of the funds in addressing homelessness among young women and children in Queensland.
