Brisbane suburbs: Public transport faster than cars in 72 areas
An analysis by the journey planning website GoThere has revealed that public transport is faster than driving for morning commutes into the Brisbane CBD in 72 suburbs. The study examined 205 suburbs within 20 kilometres of Central Station, comparing door-to-door travel times by 9:00 am.
Some outer locations, such as Zillmere, were found to have faster public transport commutes than closer suburbs like Coorparoo. Newstead was identified as one of the best suburbs for transit, offering a 22-minute trip with 54 routes accessible within a 10-minute walk. The fastest door-to-door trips were recorded from suburbs including Bowen Hills, Fortitude Valley, Milton, Newmarket, South Brisbane, Taringa, Northgate, and Wilston, all of which utilized train services.
While rail provided the fastest journeys, only one in three suburbs had a train station within a 10-minute walk. Approximately 58 per cent of suburbs rely solely on buses within a 10-minute walking distance, while only five suburbs—the city, Spring Hill, Milton, South Brisbane, and Newstead—offer access to trains, buses, and ferries.
