Malmesbury teen arrested for alleged links to global '764' exploitation network

A 16-year-old resident of Malmesbury, South Africa, was arrested on 17 August 2026 following an investigation into the '764' online network, a violent international group linked to child exploitation and extremism.

The arrest was conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in collaboration with the FBI, the US Embassy, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). Authorities allege the teenager is facing 11 charges, including seven counts of sexual assault, sexual exploitation of children, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, animal cruelty, and making threatening data messages.

During the raid, police reportedly seized electronic devices containing explicit images and videos of child sexual abuse and animal mutilation. The case has prompted warnings from organizations like Save the Children South Africa regarding the grooming and manipulation of minors into becoming perpetrators of online violence.
