Brisighella restores historical mural map and Fontana Vecchia
Restoration work has been completed on the historical mural map and the Fontana Vecchia in Brisighella, Italy. Located on via Porta Fiorentina, the mural serves as an outdoor visual guide illustrating the territory of Brisighella and the Lamone Valley, featuring landmarks such as the Tre Colli, the Lamone river, and various local castles and towers.
In conjunction with the mural, the railing of the Fontana Vecchia was also restored to match its original historical design. Built around 1490 within the medieval walls, the fountain is the town's oldest public water source. Historically known locally as ‘la funtana di tri sbroff’ due to its three jets, it is fed by aquifers from the Romagnola Gypsum Vein.
The restoration of the mural, which was not subject to specific architectural or landscape constraints, was carried out by the company Laboratorio del Restauro. Experts utilized historical photographic archives and existing traces to halt degradation caused by time and weather, employing specialized solvents and consolidation techniques to recover the work's legibility.
