Brissogne prison faces staffing neglect, union claims

The Sinappe national union of penitentiary police has denounced the central administration for neglecting the Brissogne prison. According to the union, 99 additional personnel units allocated to the Piedmont, Liguria, and Valle d’Aosta regional district will be distributed to facilities in Cuneo, Novara, and Alba to facilitate the opening of 450 new detention spots.

No new agents are expected to be assigned to Brissogne, with existing staff being replaced only through ordinary mobility. Sinappe representative Matteo Ricucci described the decision as an “unacceptable” move that ignores the sacrifices of staff at Brissogne. The union noted that while the facility does not face overcrowding, it continuously receives inmates transferred for security reasons. Furthermore, staff are reportedly facing shifts exceeding 12 hours and difficulties accessing weekly rest periods.
