Bristol Temple Meads opens new £23m eastern entrance

A new eastern entrance at Bristol Temple Meads railway station is scheduled to open at 4pm on Monday, 7 September. The £23 million project, delivered by Network Rail in partnership with the Bristol Temple Quarter programme, provides a direct connection between the station and the University of Bristol’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.

The entrance is designed to improve access for businesses and communities in St Philip’s Marsh and eastern Bristol. It is expected to serve approximately 2.5 million passengers annually by 2030 and serves as the first of three planned entrances intended to help double the capacity of the station.

Funding for the entrance was provided through a £94.7 million government investment awarded to the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (WECA). The project is a key component of the Bristol Temple Quarter regeneration programme, one of Europe’s largest urban regeneration initiatives, which aims to create thousands of new homes and jobs through a partnership involving WECA, Bristol City Council, Network Rail, the University of Bristol, and Homes England.
