Bristol's Mud Dock Cycleworks to Close After 32 Years

Mud Dock Cycleworks, a landmark independent bike shop in Bristol, announced it will close at the end of August 2024 after more than three decades of operation. The shop was founded in 1993 by Jerry Arron and his wife Beverly, and has sold around 15,000 bicycles while fostering a strong local cycling community.

The owners said the business has achieved its original goal of getting more Bristol residents on two wheels and now wish to focus on riding rather than retail. The adjacent Mud Dock Café will remain open with extended hours, and the shop will run clearance sales on its remaining stock, including road, e‑bikes and balance bikes. The closure reflects broader pressures on UK independent bike retailers from rising costs, online competition and changing consumer habits.
