Britain's Labour Party Considers Revisiting Brexit Red Lines

European affairs minister Nick Thomas‑Symonds told The Times that Labour does not currently have a mandate to start talks on its Brexit "red‑line" manifesto, but the party will have to review them. He said any reconsideration depends on the success of the government's current "reset" of Britain‑EU relations.

Thomas‑Symonds also noted the UK is negotiating a deal to re‑enter the EU internal electricity market, which could lower household energy bills by allowing cheap French nuclear power when domestic generation is low. The discussion comes as Labour’s leadership contest highlights the EU relationship, with figures such as Keir Starmer and Wes Streeting urging closer ties while Andy Burnham has spoken of re‑joining the EU in his lifetime.
