British Airways pilots incapacitated by food poisoning on Hyderabad‑London flight

Three British Airways pilots on flight BA276 from Hyderabad, India, to London, United Kingdom, fell ill with suspected food poisoning after sharing breakfast at a hotel lounge and drinking bottled water supplied by an external vendor. One pilot became unable to perform his duties at cruising altitude above 9,100 m, required oxygen, and was assisted by the remaining crew, who continued the flight safely to Heathrow.

British Airways opened an investigation, reviewing crew accommodation and catering arrangements in Hyderabad. The airline and the British Airline Pilots' Association (BALPA) stressed crew health and urged varied meals for crew members to reduce the risk of simultaneous food‑borne illness. The incident is rare; a similar large‑scale food‑poisoning event affected the airline in 1984, but no safety incident occurred on this flight and it landed without further issues.
