British Columbia allocates $15 million for 2027 FireSmart projects

The British Columbia government has announced $15 million in funding for the 2027 intake of the FireSmart Community Funding and Supports (FCFS) program. This initiative aims to bolster wildfire risk reduction and community resilience across the province.

Available to local governments and First Nations, the funding supports various activities, including wildfire-resiliency planning, home and critical-infrastructure assessments, education, training, and mitigation rebates. The program is delivered through a partnership between the Ministry of Forests, the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society, and the Union of B. C. Municipalities.

Forest Minister Ravi Parmar noted that the recent difficult wildfire seasons have underscored the effectiveness of FireSmart. Since 2018, approximately $190 million has been invested in the FCFS program, benefiting over 300 communities. The application intake for the 2027 funding round is scheduled to open on October 1, 2026.
