British Columbia flu and COVID vaccine rollout begins October 13
The Provincial Health Officer has announced that influenza vaccination for high-risk populations in British Columbia will begin on October 13, with general public notifications following in early November.
Concerns have been raised regarding the timing of this rollout, as influenza A and COVID-19 are already spreading throughout the province. The BC Centre for Disease Control reported that the five percent threshold indicating the start of the flu epidemic season was reached in the first week of September.
Reports indicate that influenza A is already causing outbreaks in hospitals and long-term-care homes. Vancouver Coastal Health has documented at least 14 influenza A outbreaks since September 1.
