British Columbia communities unveil new public art projects
A colourful mural by Vancouver‑based artist Ben Evely was unveiled on July 24 in downtown Maple Ridge, featuring the Golden Ears Mountains, local wildlife and cityscapes. The work marks the first installation by the Mural Collective, a grassroots programme supported by the Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association and the city.
Meanwhile, the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum and Art Society in the North Okanagan announced two upcoming exhibitions, opening on August 6. Local painter Sue Wiebe will display a series of landscape and wildlife oils, while artist James Kortekaas will present abstract works created through intuitive and meditative processes. Both exhibitions are free to the public and include community activities such as a scavenger‑hunt partnership with the Okanagan Regional Library.
