Brunswick Complex wildfires force evacuations in British Columbia
The Brunswick Complex wildfires, comprising the Anderson Creek, Ainslie Creek and Brunswick Creek fires, have burned over 27,000 hectares in the Fraser Canyon region of British Columbia. Aggressive fire behaviour, fueled by hot, dry conditions, has prompted a series of evacuation alerts and orders covering more than 450 properties in communities such as Boston Bar, Hell’s Gate, Scuzzy Creek, North Boothroyd and North Bend. The Fraser Valley Regional District and several First Nations, including Spuzzum and Boston Bar First Nations, have issued mandatory evacuations, while Highway 1 remains closed between Spuzzum Creek Road and Jackass Summit and Highway 3 runs single‑lane alternating traffic.
A reception centre in Kamloops has been opened to accommodate evacuees from the Boston Bar area. Fire crews continue to protect structures and maintain sprinkler systems, but remaining residents in ordered zones are warned that their presence endangers both the public and firefighting operations. Smoke from the fires has also degraded air quality across the region, prompting health advisories.
Authorities stress that life safety remains the top priority and that the fires will continue to be monitored as weather conditions evolve.
