British Columbia funds First Nations Fisheries Council

The British Columbia government has allocated $2 million to the First Nations Fisheries Council of British Columbia (FNFC) to enhance collaboration on aquatic and coastal ecosystem health. The funding will be distributed over a three-year period.

The initiative aims to support joint priorities including fisheries and aquatic resource planning, watershed sustainability, wild salmon recovery, and the strengthening of local economies. By increasing capacity, the funding is intended to facilitate informed stewardship and collaborative dialogue between First Nations and the Province.

Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship Randene Neill stated that the partnership to increase healthy fish populations benefits all British Columbians. The collaboration will also enable partners to work with the federal government on shared interests regarding the management of aquatic resources and territories.
