British Columbia urges residents to prepare grab‑and‑go evacuation kits

The British Columbia provincial government has issued guidance urging households to assemble a grab‑and‑go emergency kit that can be quickly taken in the event of an evacuation. The kit should be stored in one or two containers (e.g., plastic bins or duffel bags) and kept in an easily accessible location. Recommended items include ready‑to‑eat food and four litres of water per person per day for three to seven days, a phone charger and battery bank, a battery‑powered or hand‑crank radio and flashlight with extra batteries, a small first‑aid kit and personal medications, personal toiletries, glasses or contact lenses, copies of important documents (insurance, ID), cash in small bills, a local map showing a family meeting place, seasonal clothing, an emergency blanket, a pen, notepad and whistle. The advice follows the 2025 wildfire season in which 30 communities were affected and 2,670 people were evacuated, as well as recent atmospheric‑river and flood events.
