British Columbia highways closed as wildfires force travel restrictions
Highway 3 (Hope‑Princeton) has been closed between the Hope Slide/Sunshine Valley area and eight kilometres west of Manning Park Lodge, and Highway 1 near Boston Bar remains shut because of the Brunswick Creek fire complex. The combined area of the Brunswick Creek fires is about 29,149 hectares, while the nearby Norwegian Creek fire is 957 hectares.
The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment warned that “due to the active wildfire and rapidly changing conditions, the area is not considered safe for members of the public.” The Coquihalla (Highway 5) is the only major route still open, but construction work is ongoing, so drivers are urged to obey speed limits, traffic‑control personnel and signage, and to allow extra travel time. Smoke is visible across the region and may impair visibility.
Travelers are advised to check DriveBC for the latest road‑closure updates and to follow evacuation orders and alerts issued by emergency authorities.
