British Columbia housing fires spark safety investigations

A brush fire broke out behind military housing at Work Point in Esquimalt, British Columbia, on the night of July 7. The fire was reported to 911 and quickly contained by Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, with no injuries or public damage. Residents expressed concerns about the base’s response and raised questions about fire safety on Department of National Defence property.

Separately, a structure fire erupted on the third floor of a new staff‑housing building at Revelstoke Mountain Resort on July 7. Fire sprinklers activated and extinguished the blaze within 40 minutes, and no injuries were reported. The incident has prompted an investigation by Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services and local authorities.

Both incidents are under investigation by provincial fire services and police, highlighting heightened attention to fire‑safety measures in BC residential facilities.
