British Columbia invests $20M to expand Ronald McDonald House housing

The British Columbia government is investing $20 million to expand housing capacity for families traveling to Vancouver for specialized pediatric medical care. The funding will support the construction of Willow House, a new facility operated by Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon.

The project will add 75 self-contained suites, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units specifically designed to accommodate larger families and longer stays. The facility will also include dedicated community and support spaces.

In 2025, Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon supported over 1,700 families from more than 145 communities across the province. Many families travel significant distances, including from northern B.C., the Interior, and Vancouver Island, to access care at BC Children’s Hospital. The investment aims to reduce the financial and logistical burdens faced by these families during intensive medical treatments. Construction is expected to begin within three to four months.
