British Columbia prepares for municipal and snap provincial elections
British Columbia is preparing for two distinct electoral processes. Local general elections are scheduled for October, with municipal leaders such as mayors and councillors being determined through a process managed by individual municipalities. In the Fraser Valley, candidates for the Chilliwack mayoral race include Jason Lum, a long-serving city councillor, Gary Raddysh, a former teacher, and Martina Rosini, a Conservative candidate.
Separately, Premier David Eby has called a snap provincial election to be held on October 24, two years ahead of the maximum four-year cycle. On Vancouver Island, several candidates have already declared their intentions to run. Notable candidates include incumbent MLA Brennan Day for the Conservatives in Courtenay-Comox, and NDP candidates Will Cole-Hamilton and Dana Lajeunesse. The deadline for candidate nominations is October 3.
