British Columbia regional districts fund park access upgrades and portable cricket pitch

Seniors in Ladysmith have asked the Cowichan Valley Regional District to improve a steep section of trail at Trillium Park, citing safety concerns for those with mobility challenges. The district’s senior manager of parks and trails said staff assessed the issue after residents raised concerns and are developing a plan to add stairs or other measures to make the trail accessible.

Separately, the Comox Valley Regional District Recreation Commission approved an $18,000 grant for the Comox Valley Cricket Club to purchase a portable cricket pitch and storage box. The portable pitch will allow the club to use multiple multi‑use fields after a permanent pitch at a local secondary school was removed for safety reasons.
