British Columbia resort bridge dispute adjourned by court
A B.C. Supreme Court judge, Justice Briana Hardwick, adjourned a summary trial application on July 17 in Kelowna concerning a long‑running dispute between two Malakwa‑area resort owners. The plaintiff, CCR Resort Ltd., sought a trial over the use of a 240‑foot suspension bridge that links its Crazy Creek Hot Pools Resort with the neighboring Jaff Family Resort Holdings Ltd.
The court’s decision favoured the defendant, Jaff Family Resort, leaving the matter unresolved for now. The bridge, built in 2004, spans Crazy Creek and provides visitor access to both properties. CCR Resort operates a hotel, camping sites, RV spaces and heated pools, while Jaff Family Resort runs a building with a residential suite, gift shop and viewing platforms. The lands were formerly owned together by Victor Bates of Crescent Ridge Holdings until 2012, after which the properties were split. A pedestrian overpass added in 2011, directed by Bates, improved access, and a ticket booth on the CCR side historically collected fees shared between the two resorts.
