British Columbia Trails Day launches volunteer events with tool and beer giveaways

The sixth annual British Columbia (B.C.) Trails Day is scheduled for early June, with 62 community events already registered, including three in the West Kootenay region. The Outdoor Recreation Council of B.C. is coordinating the day and offers a Shapeshifter trail‑building tool and shipments of Nonny non‑alcoholic beer as prizes for registered events. Entries submitted by May 18 will be eligible, and winners will be announced on May 19.

Planned West Kootenay activities include a trail‑improvement workday at the Waterline Walls climbing area in Castlegar on June 6, a disc‑golf course cleanup in Rossland on May 17, and a guided hike of the Record Ridge grassland on June 13. The Record Ridge event features a free online photography course and provides macro lenses for cell‑phone cameras, led by botanist and photographer Iraleigh Anderson. All events are free and open to the public, with recommended gear such as sturdy footwear, gloves, and protective eyewear.
