British Columbia weather: Cold front to bring high winds and snow

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Eastern Fraser Valley, Okanagan, and Cariboo regions in British Columbia, forecasting a sharp cold front and fall storm for Saturday, Oct. 17.

The storm is expected to bring mixed weather conditions, including sudden gusty winds between 60 and 80 km/h. Snow levels are projected to drop to 1500 metres in southern B.C. and 1200 metres in central B.C. Additionally, there is a risk of thunderstorms in the Cariboo and Columbia regions, along with potential small hail and scattered showers.

Authorities warn that the weather could lead to localized power outages, fallen branches, and slippery road conditions. High-profile vehicles are advised to exercise caution due to high winds. As a reminder, winter tires have been required on B.C. highways since Oct. 1.
