British Columbia Wildfire Near Highway 33 Mobilizes Air Tankers and Helicopters

A wildfire ignited Thursday afternoon near Dale Creek, about six kilometres west of Highway 33 and ten kilometres from Myra‑Bellevue Provincial Park in British Columbia. The fire, reported at roughly one hectare, exhibited aggressive Rank 3‑4 behaviour, prompting an initial attack response.

The BC Wildfire Service deployed sixteen firefighters, three helicopters and air tankers. crews had pre‑positioned resources in anticipation of a forecasted lightning event, and authorities noted a handful of lightning strikes between Penticton and the U.S. border near Osoyoos that have started additional fires. The service warned that Friday is expected to be the most active day for lightning and urged the public to use the BC Wildfire Service app’s “Report a Fire” feature to help assess new starts and prioritize resources.
