British Columbia wildfire near Quesnel burns 1,300 hectares

A wildfire was discovered on June 1 northwest of Quesnel, British Columbia, about 3.8 km southwest of Comstock Lake. The BC Wildfire Service reports the fire has burned roughly 1,300 ha. Seventy‑three firefighters, supported by aviation and heavy equipment, are battling the blaze. Aircraft have dropped retardant and water to cool the fire and enable ground crews to build access points, guards and hose lines. On June 1 the fire displayed Rank 3–4 behaviour with torching and spotting; by the afternoon of June 2 it had moderated to Rank 2–3, a lower‑intensity surface fire. The incident remains out of control and the cause is under investigation.
