Brunswick Complex wildfires force evacuations and spark water system vandalism in British Columbia
The Brunswick Complex near Boston Bar, British Columbia, remains out of control, comprising three wildfires—Anderson Creek (10,118 ha), Ainslie Creek (17,999 ha) and Brunswick Creek (7,397 ha)—for a combined area of more than 35,000 ha. Cooler, humid weather over the weekend has moderated fire behaviour, but wind aligned with steep slopes continues to influence the burns. Highway 1 remains closed for a 45.2‑km stretch between Spuzzum Creek Road and Jackass Summit, and fifteen evacuation orders and six alerts cover Boston Bar and nearby communities.
Within the evacuation zone, the Fraser Valley Regional District reported that the Boston Bar water system was vandalized on July 23 when a valve riser was opened, triggering a high‑flow alarm. The system was shut down, then briefly restored, but officials warned that the incorrect valve operation could cause a water‑hammer event and a catastrophic failure. A boil‑water notice and stage‑4 water‑conservation measures remain in place, with water service running intermittently while priority is given to the BC Wildfire Service. The district is investigating the incident and urges anyone with information to contact Hope RCMP (file 2026‑31913).
