British Cycling launches action plan following toxic culture survey

British Cycling and the Great Britain Cycling Team have launched an action plan to address concerns regarding the culture of their World Class Programme. The move follows an independent Culture Feedback Survey, funded by UK Sport and conducted by The Happiness Index, which revealed a decline in morale among riders and staff.

Reports indicate that when asked to describe the programme, “toxic” was among the most common responses from participants, alongside terms such as “cold”, “unconcerned”, “distant”, “unclear”, and “restrictive”. The survey recorded satisfaction scores of -42 for male riders and -31 for female riders on a scale of -100 to +100, marking a significant drop from previous assessments.

A spokesperson for British Cycling stated that the wellbeing of staff and riders is “fundamental to everything we do” and noted that while many team members report high job satisfaction, the organization is committed to listening and acting on the feedback. The new action plan will focus on leadership, development, feedback, and wellbeing.
