British Deputy High Commissioner meets Punjab Minister on diaspora issues

British Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio and Senior Adviser Madhu Mishra met with Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister, Dr. Ravjot Singh, in Chandigarh to discuss matters affecting the Punjabi diaspora in the United Kingdom.

The discussions focused on strengthening communication and cooperation between the Punjab government and UK authorities to better support the Punjabi community regarding immigration, employment, and travel. Both officials emphasized the need for increased public awareness to combat visa fraud and exploitation by unauthorized travel agents.

During her visit, Smeriglio also traveled to the Ludhiana district to speak with youth about the risks of unsafe migration and the importance of following legal, official procedures. Additionally, Minister Singh announced that the Punjab government will host an NRI Milni in Bathinda on August 26, allowing overseas Punjabis to interact directly with government representatives.
