Chevening Scholarship awards postgraduate studies to students in Pacific and Indonesia
The UK Government’s Chevening Scholarship program is facilitating postgraduate studies for several students across the Pacific and Southeast Asia. In the Solomon Islands, four scholars are preparing to depart for the United Kingdom to begin master’s degrees at leading British universities following a pre-departure briefing with British High Commissioner Paul Turner.
In Papua New Guinea, five graduates from the University of Papua New Guinea have been awarded scholarships to study specialized fields including data science, sustainability, and corporate governance. British High Commissioner Paul Eastwood noted that the program has supported over 100 Papua New Guineans over the last 40 years.
In Indonesia, the British Embassy in Jakarta is actively promoting the scholarship to youth in Papua. Political Counselor Sam Perkins highlighted that while selection is conducted on a national basis without regional quotas, strategic partnerships exist to support Papuan students in accessing these fully funded opportunities to develop leadership and international networks.
