British schoolgirl missing in Tokyo during family holiday

Authorities in Japan have launched a search operation for Carmelita Lakdesha Paul, a 12-year-old British schoolgirl who went missing during a family holiday in Tokyo.

Paul, who arrived in Japan with her family on July 21, was last seen on the morning of August 13. CCTV footage captured her leaving a private rental in the Nichome section of Kamata, Ota Ward, wearing a blue sleeveless top, a black and white skirt, black shoes, and carrying a pink handbag. She was seen boarding a train at Kamata Station and traveling approximately 20 minutes to Yokohama Station, after which her movements could not be traced.

Police noted that the girl did not take her passport or smartphone with her and is believed to have only a few thousand yen (approximately £70) in cash. She is described as being 160 centimeters tall with a medium build and curly black hair. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office stated they are supporting the family and are in contact with local Japanese authorities. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Kamata Police Station.
