British investor reclaims £3.3 million in Bitcoin after 12-year fight
A British investor, identified only as “Chris,” has successfully reclaimed 61 Bitcoin worth approximately £3.3 million ($4.4 million) after a 12-year struggle. The funds were originally purchased in 2011 for roughly £1,500 through Britcoin, an early UK exchange that later rebranded as Intersango.
Access to the assets was lost in early 2014 when Intersango shut down operations. Because the platform was not licensed by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) at the time, customers faced significant difficulties retrieving their holdings. After years of believing the investment was lost, Chris engaged CEL Solicitors to pursue the recovery.
Legal representatives used historical financial records and court documents to establish ownership. Following the successful recovery, Chris intends to use a portion of the funds to purchase a larger home while keeping the rest invested.
