British investors regret missing gold and silver price surges
A study by The Royal Mint reveals that one-third of British adults regret not investing in precious metals over the last five years. Specifically, 33% expressed regret regarding gold, which saw a price increase of approximately 128% during that period, while 30% regretted missing out on silver, which rose by about 126%.
This sense of missed opportunity regarding gold and silver is higher than the regret felt toward Bitcoin, which was noted by 20% of respondents. The survey highlights significant economic anxiety in the UK, with 73% of participants concerned that global conflicts and economic instability could impact their asset values. Additionally, two-thirds of those surveyed expressed worry regarding their personal financial outlook.
Despite this regret, a shift in capital allocation has not yet materialized. Only 25% of British respondents indicated they might invest savings into gold or silver within the next five years. Traditional bank accounts remain the most popular choice, with 60% of respondents stating they would continue to keep their money in banks. Historically, gold and silver ownership remains low, with only 8% and 3% of British adults holding these metals as savings, respectively.
