British Library hosts Agatha Christie exhibition
The British Library in London is launching a major exhibition titled “Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery” to mark the 50th anniversary of the author’s death. The display explores the life, travels, and scientific interests that shaped the work of the “Queen of Crime.”
Visitors can explore five immersive sections, including a mock country house representing her childhood, a reconstructed 1920s train carriage inspired by “Murder on the Orient Express,” and a pharmacy setting. The pharmacy section highlights Christie’s real-world experience as a nurse and pharmacy dispenser during World War I, showcasing her deep knowledge of poisons like strychnine, which she frequently used as murder weapons in her novels.
The exhibition features approximately 100 rare items, including early drafts, letters, photographs, and her personal typewriter. It also aims to provide insight into Christie as an individual, showcasing personal photos of her surfing and roller skating alongside the genesis of her famous characters, such as Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.
