British military rejects 59,000 recruits due to health standards

The British Ministry of Defence has reported significant challenges in military recruitment due to strict health and fitness standards. Between July 2024 and January 2026, approximately 59,010 applicants were rejected from the British Armed Forces.

The British Army saw the highest number of disqualifications, with 45,680 candidates failing to qualify. Additionally, 12,310 applicants were rejected from the Royal Air Force, and 1,020 from the Royal Navy. Despite high interest levels—with over 155,000 applications for the Army and 51,000 for the RAF—rigorous medical, physical, and mental health criteria remain the primary barriers to service.
