British Museum sees massive spending surge for Bayeux Tapestry tickets

Data from Monzo indicates a significant surge in consumer spending related to the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum. When the second tranche of public tickets went on sale, payments to the museum reached 48 times the amount of a typical Wednesday morning.

In the first hour of sales, cardholders spent £14,100, which is double the opening morning spending of major Hollywood blockbusters such as ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. Within two hours, total spending reached £30,500, exceeding the combined average Saturday night expenditure across six major UK nightlife venues by 60%.

The 1,000-year-old embroidery, which records the Norman Conquest, has drawn intense interest from diverse age groups. Due to the extraordinary response and lengthy queues, the British Museum has implemented changes to manage crowds, including a ban on visitor photography.
