British Museum to host final leg of Lee Kun-hee collection exhibition
The overseas touring exhibition of the late Lee Kun-hee collection is set to conclude its journey at the British Museum in London. Co-hosted by the National Museum of Korea and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, the exhibition, titled ‘Korea: 2,000 Years of Creativity’, will run from October 1, 2024, to January 31, 2027.
Following successful showcases in Washington, D.C. and Chicago, this final leg features 100 items, including 27 National Treasures and 23 Treasures. The collection spans 2,000 years of Korean history, from ancient artifacts like the Daegu Bisan-dong bronzeware to modern masterpieces by artists such as Nam June Paik, Park Su-geun, and Kim Whanki.
The exhibition is organized into four thematic sections: ‘Wealth and Power’ (ancient history and Buddhist art), ‘Wisdom and Beauty’ (Goryeo celadon and metalwork), ‘Learning and Pleasure’ (Joseon dynasty Confucianism and painting), and ‘Individuality and Community’ (modern and contemporary art).
