British politicians condemn ‘Palestine Poppy’ campaign

British lawmakers and military veterans have criticized a campaign selling ‘Palestine Poppies’—enamel pins designed with the black, white, and green colors of the Palestinian flag—accusing organizers of politicizing a national symbol of remembrance. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Conservative lawmaker David Reed condemned the initiative, stating that remembrance should not be used as a vehicle for political activism or agendas.

The creator of the pins, Abdul Qader Ismail, is an Oxford-educated pediatrician and member of Greens for Palestine. Ismail has authored books for Muslim teenagers that discuss religious punishments, including stoning and whipping, describing them as deterrents within Shariah law. The pins are marketed as a “symbol of solidarity and remembrance for the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people” and are sold as a non-profit initiative to benefit Gaza charities.
