British Prince William and King Charles Reveal Their Tax Payments

Prince William, the Prince of Wales, disclosed his personal tax bill for the 2024‑25 fiscal year, paying £7.76 million in income and capital‑gains tax. He also reported voluntarily paying £21.6 million in taxes on income from the Duchy of Cornwall for 2025‑26. The Duke’s estate, valued at over £1.2 billion, generates significant revenue, but a royal expert urged further transparency about total income, expenses, and dividends.

King Charles became the first British monarch to publish his personal tax contribution, confirming a payment of £12.9 million for the 2024‑25 tax year. The royal finances released show the Sovereign Grant rising sharply, with the Duchy of Lancaster providing the king with £26.8 million and the Duchy of Cornwall delivering £22.9 million to Prince William. The disclosures come amid public debate over the cost of the monarchy and calls for greater openness.

In addition, Prince William announced that he will cease personally benefiting from the £1.5 million annual rent derived from the empty Dartmoor Prison, redirecting the funds to a community‑regeneration scheme for the nearby village of Princetown.
