British public opposes state funding for Harry and Meghan's security

A YouGov poll conducted for The Times reveals significant public opposition in Britain regarding the funding of security for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prepare to return to the United Kingdom with their children, 71% of the 2,128 adults surveyed stated that the government should not fund any part of their security costs.

Furthermore, 87% of respondents believe that the couple's personal resources should cover all, most, or at least some of the protection expenses. While 52% suggested that the King's private funds could be used for security needs, the majority favor private financing.

The issue arises as the couple plans to relocate from California to the UK, having already enrolled their children in British schools. The arrangements for their protection are currently under review by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec). Prince Harry has been involved in a legal dispute with the Home Office regarding his security level since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
