British Steel welcomes 70 new apprentices and graduates

British Steel has welcomed 70 new apprentices and graduates as part of a renewed commitment to skills development and industrial renewal. The intake includes 36 technical, electrical, mechanical, and structural apprentices based in Scunthorpe, following the reopening of the company’s apprentice training centre there.

Additional roles will be filled by 17 apprentices at the company’s northern mills in Teesside and Skinningrove, and one at the research and development centre in Sheffield. Furthermore, 16 graduates have joined the company, marking the first graduate intake since 2022 following the relaunch of the firm’s graduate recruitment programme.

Minister for Industry Blair McDougall stated that reindustrialising Britain begins with steel, noting that these roles are essential to securing the long-term future of the industry. Nick Ashton, HR Director at British Steel, highlighted the high calibre of candidates and emphasized that investing in people is vital to the company’s long-term success.
