British study finds menopause supplements often lack key nutrients

A British consumer organization has analyzed 26 supplements marketed to assist with menopause and found that many lack sufficient amounts of key nutrients. The study suggests that standard multivitamins may serve as a more effective and affordable alternative to these specialized products.

The global menopause supplement market is experiencing rapid growth and is projected to reach $19.69 billion by 2026. Researchers noted that simply adding the word ‘menopause’ to a product label can significantly increase its price. Some specialized supplements can cost up to 60,000 dinars annually, whereas basic multivitamins with similar effects are considerably cheaper.

The shift toward supplements is partly driven by women seeking alternatives to hormone replacement therapy or antidepressants. While activism has increased awareness of menopause as a biological phase, the supplement market remains less regulated, leading to concerns regarding misinformation and overpriced products.
