British Superbike Championship announces 2027 technical reset
The British Superbike Championship (BSB) has announced a ‘Next Generation’ technical platform set for introduction in 2027. Described as the most significant evolution of the class in over a decade, the new regulations aim to foster closer competition, increase manufacturer diversity, and implement cost-containment measures.
To address performance gaps between different motorcycle architectures and the changing retail market for 1000cc sports bikes, BSB will implement a sophisticated Balance of Performance (BoP) system. Central to this transition is a new Mectronik torque-based electronic management system that will replace the current control ECU.
Under the new rules, motorcycles will be calibrated to operate within specific performance parameters, with an initial target of approximately 200 bhp. Performance will be managed through torque distribution across the rev range, using track data to refine the balance of overall performance once racing commences. The regulations will also account for different machinery generations; newer models will remain closer to standard specifications, while older models may use specific components to meet the required performance window. This reduced performance ceiling is also intended to improve reliability and extend engine life, thereby reducing the number of engines required per season.
