Ecuador police conduct multiple arrests in June 16 operations, capturing murder suspect and others

On 16 June 2026 the Ecuadorian National Police carried out several operations across the country. In Sucumbíos province, officers seized two suspects – a Colombian national and an Ecuadorian – accused of a sexual assault on a 17‑year‑old girl, following a 911 alert. In Imbabura province, a British teenager who had been the subject of an Interpol‑issued disappearance notice was located after a coordinated effort with international agencies; she was placed in protective care in Quito while investigations continue.

In Ambato, police captured Guido Roberto O. R., the fourth‑most‑wanted murder suspect, in the Huachi Grande sector during operation “Fénix 308.” He is alleged to have killed Marcelo Villacrés in 2017. The same day, in Esmeraldas, two adolescent members of the criminal group Los Tiguerones were arrested for a triple homicide that had taken place two days earlier, with the victims identified as the Castillo Benítez brothers and a family friend.

All suspects were taken into custody and are awaiting further judicial proceedings.
