British tourist dies after falling from Kithal Ella waterfall in Sri Lanka
A 27-year-old British resident, Valentina Stragliotto, died after falling from the Kithal Ella waterfall in the Badulla District of Sri Lanka. Stragliotto, who was originally born in Italy, was traveling in the Ella area with a companion when the accident occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fall happened when she lost her balance while attempting to take a selfie or admire the view from a rock at the top of the waterfall. She fell over a precipice estimated to be more than 30 meters deep, striking rocks during the descent. Although she was transported by ambulance to the Demodara Divisional Hospital, medical professionals confirmed she had passed away upon arrival.
A post-mortem report from the Badulla Teaching Hospital identified severe injuries to her head and internal organs as the primary cause of death. The British High Commission in Colombo has been notified and is providing consular assistance to her family to manage the repatriation of her remains.
