British tourist drowns after jumping from ferry in Spain

A 45-year-old British man has drowned off Spain’s Costa Dorada after jumping from a passenger ferry in an attempt to swim to a beach bar. The incident occurred during a journey between the resorts of Cambrils and Salou in Catalonia.

The man was traveling with his parents and his 42-year-old brother. Reports indicate that both brothers jumped into the water shortly before the vessel was due to arrive in Salou. While the younger brother successfully reached land, the 45-year-old struggled in the water and was unable to reach the shore. His body was recovered by maritime rescue services later that evening.

Local police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the death, and an autopsy is being conducted. Cataluña’s Civil Protection has issued warnings to beachgoers to exercise caution and follow lifeguard instructions when entering the water.
